Synopsis

More and more patients with residual hearing are candidates for cochlear implants. Insertion of cochlear implant electrodes to the inner ear elicits inflammation and foreign body reaction. It has been demonstrated that loss of residual hearing after implantation is due to inflammation. We develop strategies to prevent implant-related inflammation and foreign body reaction and thus, to protect residual hearing.
