Many viruses induce early type I interferon responses that promote host survival until adaptive immunity is effective. We study spatiotemporal conditions of type I interferon induction, underlying signaling pathways and viral evasion strategies. One emphasis is the mechanistic analysis of type I interferon in modulation of viral hepatitis. In parallel to mouse studies we perform experiments with human primary immune cells.
