Gastrointestinal endoscopy

The gastrointestinal endoscopy department at Hannover Medical School offers the full range of state-of-the-art technology for diagnostic and interventional endoscopy in a spacious and patient-friendly environment. During an endoscopy ("endoscopy"), the organs can be visualized by inserting tiny probes equipped with cameras. Treatment inside the body can often be carried out directly during the same session.

Qualified specialists carry out the procedures. Cooperation with other specialist disciplines guarantees treatment at the highest level. In addition to standard and special endoscopic methods, new therapeutic procedures are regularly developed and evaluated as part of clinical studies.

The examinations and procedures are usually performed under short anesthesia, even for outpatients on request, which means that the patient is deeply asleep during the endoscopy and does not experience any pain. The administration of medication and monitoring is carried out by experienced and specially trained specialists. An on-call service is available around the clock for emergency care. In addition to patient care and clinical research, endoscopy is centrally involved in student teaching as well as medical training and further education.
