Diabetes outpatient clinic
Patients with diabetes mellitus type 1 and diabetes mellitus type 2 are treated in the diabetes outpatient clinic. In addition to optimizing metabolic control, we also treat other cardiovascular risk factors and apply the principles of substance-specific therapy, as stipulated by international guidelines.
The spectrum of our diabetes outpatient clinic ranges from patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated with medication, patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus on intensified insulin therapy, pregnant patients with gestational diabetes, glucose sensor measurements through to insulin pump therapy, some of which is sensor-linked.
Our diabetes consultant Ms. Schüling and our diabetes assistant Ms. Wolpers provide instruction in medical nutrition therapy as well as training in the use of insulin pens, blood glucose meters, glucose sensors and insulin pumps. Another focus of the diabetes outpatient clinic is the provision of consultative care for the entire hospital. Patients are also cared for as part of clinical trials with new antidiabetic substances.
