Dr. med. Bastian Engel working group
Our clinical-translational research group deals with immunologically mediated liver diseases before (autoimmune hepatitis: AIH; drug-induced autoimmune-like hepatitis: DI-ALH) and after liver transplantation. Our focus is on the identification and evaluation of diagnostic and prognostic markers in order to improve the diagnosis of AIH/DI-ALH or rejection after liver transplantation and, for example, to better predict the response to therapies.
In particular, we also use -omics technologies (e.g. single cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics) to characterize pathophysiological relationships more precisely. Our work also focuses on improving autoantibody-based and biomarker-based diagnostics, particularly in the field of autoimmune liver diseases, but also after liver transplantation.
Together with the Taubert working group, we draw on two prospective biomaterial collections for our projects, which were established in 2008 (liver transplantation) and 2010 (autoimmune liver diseases).
We continue to work together with cooperation partners on the implementation of analysis methods based on artificial intelligence in our projects in AIH and after liver transplantation, especially for image analysis and analysis of large data sets.
We are regularly looking for motivated PhD students (PhD, MD). Please send applications to: Engel.Bastian@mh-hannover.de
