Prof. Dr. Lilli Geworski, Head of the Safety and Physics Administrative Unit and Radiation Protection Officer at Hannover Medical School (MHH), has been awarded the Expert Prize by the German Society for Medical Physics (DGMP). With this award, the professional society recognizes the medical physicist for her significant contributions in the field of nuclear medicine. Her standard work on the quality assurance of nuclear medicine equipment is an integral part of Clinical Department and training, and her work on the harmonization and calibration of PET/CT imaging has significantly improved the comparability and reliability of these procedures. "With this expert award, the DGMP honors a personality who combines scientific expertise, clinical relevance and social commitment in an exemplary manner," says a DGMP press release.

A particular focus of her work is radiation protection. Through practical concepts for dose optimization, MHH Professor Geworski has not only sustainably strengthened the safety of patients, but also that of the university's employees. In addition, her research into the handling of open radionuclides and process design has enabled the safe introduction of modern procedures such as Ga-68 PET/CT and Lu-177 therapy. She thus combines scientific excellence with direct benefits for clinical care. Beyond Clinical Department and research, Professor Lilli Geworski has contributed her expertise to the Radiation Protection Commission for many years, advising politicians and authorities on the further development of radiation protection law. She was also involved as a mentor in the promotion of young scientists.
