Teaching in the pediatric clinic

Teaching in the pediatric clinic:

In the pediatric clinic, we offer classes for all school-age patients. Do you have a favorite topic that you would like to find out more about? Is there a particular exam you want to prepare for? Would you like to learn what you are missing at school?

We, the teachers at the children's clinic, want to help you with this. The lessons take place together with a teacher in the patient's room. Two to three lessons per week are planned. If necessary and if time permits, a maximum of one lesson a day can be offered. The number of lessons is variable and depends on your wishes and your ability to work under pressure. We do not offer lessons during the school vacations in Lower Saxony.

In addition to primary school lessons, we offer our patients lessons in mathematics, English and biology up to A-levels. By arrangement, it may also be possible to offer support in other subjects up to Year 10. We will be guided by your interests and needs, as well as the curriculum of the respective year and your type of school. We can also help you to make contact with teachers from your school or make it easier for you to return to school. If necessary, we are happy to help you apply for home schooling.

Every Monday we visit the new school children in the children's clinic. And if it's not Monday - just give us a call or send us an e-mail!

Pedagogical guidelines for our hospital lessons:

Possible gaps in learning should be addressed and worked through so that the child can catch up with the performance level of the home class as far as possible. The risk of having to repeat a class due to long absences can be significantly reduced, and in most cases even eliminated, through hospital lessons, which should help to overcome illness-related fears of failure and the future.

Hospital education is intended to promote the somatic healing process psychologically and is therefore part of holistic medical care. It must not become a burden for patients and is therefore geared towards the learning needs and interests of children and young people. One aim is to maintain contact with normality and counteract feelings of hopelessness and isolation.

Hospital education is intended to reduce the dependency and limitations caused by therapy and to promote the pursuit of autonomy and independence in order to maintain or rebuild self-esteem.
