We have a total of 21 training professions and voluntary services on offer for you - there is definitely something for organizational talents, technology enthusiasts, researchers, communication geniuses and sleuths.
Do you already know the MHH? We are a hospital, research institution and university all in one. With almost 12,000 employees, we are firmly rooted in Hanover and have strong international networks in all departments. Around 600 young people start their careers with us every year. We want to train them to become independent and responsible specialists. To this end, we offer modern training standards and excellent chances of being taken on.

For health experts and those in the forefront
With the generalist nursing training at our Training Academy for Nursing, you will become an all-round talent in the nursing field. You will experience nursing care for the sick, children and the elderly in acute, long-term inpatient and outpatient situations. The training is therefore very varied and designed for different patient groups. You will get to know all areas of nursing care and will know at the end what you like and enjoy most.
The training framework:
- Three years of training
- A secondary school leaving certificate is required
- Apprenticeship pay:
1st year: €1,230.70 gross
2nd year: €1,296.70 gross
3rd year: €1,403.00 gross (as at 2023)

Anaesthesia technician assistants (ATAs for short) are an important support for anaesthesiology specialists, or anaesthetists for short. The ATAs always provide these physicians with expert assistance in the preparation, implementation and aftercare of anesthesia. You will learn all the theory at our school for OTAs & ATAs and the practical part at the MHH.
The training framework:

Surgical assistants (OTAs) have a lot of responsibility in the operating theater. During your training with us, you will get to know all areas of responsibility: the preparation and follow-up of an operation, including checking technical equipment, setting up the necessary instruments and checking compliance with hygiene guidelines. The theory takes place at our school for OTA & ATA, the practice at the MHH. At the end of the course, you will be very familiar with the operating theater procedure and will be able to act quickly and flexibly in emergency situations.

Medical assistants are true organizational and communication talents. With our MFA training, you will learn how to prepare and follow up patient files, coordinate examination appointments, prepare the examination rooms and look after patients before, during and after the respective examinations. You will also assist with medical examinations. During your apprenticeship, you will attend the Alice Salomon School for two days in the first year and one day a week from the second year onwards.

A visit to the dentist causes quite a few people to feel downright anxious. As a dental assistant (ZFA), you can provide reassurance and support to these patients in particular. During your dental assistant training, you will also learn how to assist with surgical, prosthetic, conservative and orthodontic treatments, take X-rays and support the care and handling of the students' courses. The dual training takes place at the vocational school and in the departments of our Center for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine.

Spokesperson, hearing or swallowing disorders can occur at any age. This is where speech therapists come into play. In close consultation with physicians, they develop therapy concepts to overcome or deal with Communications disorders. As a trainee, you will learn how to diagnose and treat speech, spokesperson, voice, swallowing and hearing disorders and how to advise patients and their relatives on how to deal with them. During the training, therapies in the various disorder areas are carried out under supervision, and theoretical and practical specialist knowledge is consolidated in three speech therapist internships.

As a dietician, you are an expert in healthy eating and can advise patients individually on the consequences of the wrong and right diet. During your training at our dietetic school, you will learn to understand the connections between nutrition and bodily functions, how to handle and prepare food and how to plan meals and calculate nutritional values. The theory takes place at the school, while the practice takes place in the MHH's canteen kitchen, pastry shop, in local hospitals and near your home.

For diagnostics heroes and sleuths
As a medical technologist for laboratory analysis (MTL), you take a close look at blood samples, tissue preparations and all kinds of body fluids under a microscope. Because in the laboratory, you look for the smallest indications of pathogens or other irregularities. In this way, you will play a key role in helping physicians to diagnose and treat patients correctly.

X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound are used to create 2D or 3D images, e.g. of bones, internal organs and blood vessels. In our medical technologist for radiology (MTR) training program, you will learn how to take these important images independently. We also teach you how to deal with patients correctly in the practical phases. In radiotherapy, for example, MTRs accompany patients throughout their treatment.

As an animal keeper specializing in research and clinic, you are responsible for breeding, keeping and Nursing laboratory animals. During your training in our central animal laboratory, you will work closely with physicians and biologists to learn the professional and species-appropriate handling of mainly small mammals, but frogs, fish, poultry, dogs, cats, sheep, pigs and monkeys are also used in research. You will also attend vocational school.

For technology lovers and craft enthusiasts
As an electronics technician for automation technology, you will solve complex problems in minute detail. At the end of your dual training, which we offer in cooperation with enercity Hannover, you will be ready to plan, organize, install and maintain sophisticated computer-controlled industrial plants, traffic control systems or building technology systems.

As a warehouse specialist, you always have an overview of the warehouse. You will be perfectly familiar with all warehouse processes and workflows, from goods receipt and storage to order picking and dispatch preparation. During our training, you will also learn about commercial business processes, including booking, canceling and returns processing, as well as activities in the areas of occupational safety, quality assurance and environmental protection.
As a warehouse logistics specialist, you will largely deal with the same tasks as a warehouse specialist. However, the training also includes more planning and organizational aspects and special fields such as customs clearance and international freight forwarding.

As an Industrial mechanic specializing in precision engineering, you will manufacture very special machine parts and devices that are used, for example, in extreme temperature ranges, assembly aids, testing equipment or bioreactors for cell cultivation. Here you can put your technical and mathematical understanding as well as your manual skills to good use. In addition to filing, sawing, gluing and welding, you will learn how to understand and implement technical drawings and how to machine materials using milling, turning and drilling machines.

For communication geniuses and organizational talents
In a library like that of the MHH with its large collection of scientific literature, you as a specialist for media and information services are the expert for this treasure trove of knowledge and the first point of contact for the various user groups, from researchers, students and doctoral candidates to patients. During our dual training, you will learn how to acquire media (purchase, inventory), record and research them in online catalogs and databases, borrow and return them and procure them as interlibrary loans from other libraries for lending.

The title of this section "Communication geniuses and organizational talents" is actually best suited to this profession. You also need a great sense of responsibility. As an event management assistant, you have an overview of the entire event. You are responsible for the smooth running of the organization and implementation. There are around 1,500 events at the MHH every year, such as trade fairs, congresses, meetings, symposia, receptions, sporting events and much more. To get to know everything, you will pass through various departments and Administrative Units during your training, such as Human Resources Management, the Finance Department, Central Purchasing, the Business Organization, Innovation and Quality Management (BIQ) Department, Financial Controlling and Press and Public Relations. The training is dual, i.e. it includes both school-based and company-based components.
