Research information system
Introduction of a research information system (FIS) at the MHH
The aim of introducing a research information system (FIS) at the MHH is to ensure that basic internal research information is recorded and displayed in an up-to-date, centralized and clear manner; integrated into this is the research report, which has been published at the MHH since 1994 in both printed and *digital versions via PDF file (*since 2004). From the 2022 reporting year, the research report will be published exclusively in digital form via the external MHH research database, which is part of the research information system. In doing so, MHH is complying with the state requirements for implementing the guidelines on transparency in research. This is supplemented by the publication of the basic data of research activities 'Third-party funded projects with reference date 01.12. of the respective previous year', which has also been mandatory since 2016 (unless this is prohibited by the client).
This type of presentation of research information data in a fixed information system is intended to meet the general demand for increased transparency in research. In future, data will only have to be entered/transferred into the system once, so that it can then be used in a variety of ways, e.g. for research reports/reports in general, websites, project applications, inquiries or information to the public. The simplification of data entry in conjunction with access to existing research-relevant databases (e.g. EDMA file) not only avoids duplicate data pools and multiple entries, but also makes work easier for all users.
Quintessence:
- Networked overview of all important research information data (transparency).
- Provision of individual research services (scientist or department).
- Provision of individual research services internally/externally through different security levels (approvals).
- Simple creation of research-related reports (e.g. FOB, project applications or reports for politics and authorities).
- Simple and targeted search/retrievability -internal- (e.g. keyword catalog) for cooperation/synergy effects.
- Simple and targeted search (e.g. keyword catalog) for general research or general interest -external- (e.g. media, public).
- Long-term simplification of work for scientists/administration through simplification of data entry by supplying systems, no multiple entries. Positive side effect, no double data collection!
A research information system 'FIS' is the path to professional research information management and has been gradually introduced at MHH since December 1, 2018 (overall presentation of all externally funded projects in the context of transparency in research).
