Anja Hesse studied Human Medicine at Hannover Medical School, Essen University Hospital and the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen from 2004 to 2010. She completed her doctorate in the Department of Trauma Surgery at Hannover Medical School.

Anja Hesse completed her residency in general and visceral surgery at Klinikum Nordstadt Hannover, in the Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology at Henriettenstiftung Hannover and in two GP practices in Hannover. In 2018, she successfully completed her further training as a specialist in general medicine.

Anja Hesse has been a member of staff at the Institute ofGeneral Medicine and Palliative Medicine since 2018, where she is involved in teaching and patient care.

Anja Hesse holds the additional qualification in palliative medicine.
