Background

Gender and diversity influence personal health, individual health behavior and medical care. Medical studies play a central role in the training of culturally and diversity-competent medical students in order to promote adequate care for patients in a diverse society.

Aims and approach

In this project, gender and diversity aspects are systematically implemented in the general medicine module of the HannibaL model study program at Hannover Medical School (MHH). The implementation process will be evaluated in a pre-post comparison from the perspective of students and lecturers in two consecutive tertials of the 2018/19 academic year.

Cooperations

The project is being implemented in cooperation with Prof. Petra Verdonk, expert in gender and diversity at the VU University Medical Center Amsterdam and visiting professor at the Institute of General Medicine. The visiting professorship is funded by the Maria Goeppert Mayer Program of the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony. The preparation and implementation of the student evaluations are carried out in cooperation with the MHH Evaluation Office.
