Palliative care consultation

The palliative care consultation is aimed at patients with a chronic, incurable illness and their relatives.

It can be useful to visit the consultation at any time during the course of an incurable oncological or other disease, even in addition to disease-specific therapy (e.g. chemotherapy). Early contact can help to address physical, psychological and social complaints in good time and to plan further care.

We advise, plan and support. For example:

  • Support in dealing with a terminal illness
  • Comprehensive assessment of symptoms and problems and planning of further care
  • Co-treatment of pain and other symptoms
  • Advice on palliative care in outpatient and inpatient settings
  • Advice on drawing up a living will

We work closely with your family physician and other treating physicians and services (e.g. palliative and hospice services, palliative care unit, outpatient pain clinic, Nursing).

Our consultation is part of the interdisciplinary area for palliative care at the MHH.
