Background

3.3 million people in need of care are looked after at home in Germany. In addition to relatives, almost 15,000 outpatient care services provide basic and treatment care on site. Due to their health vulnerability, the group of people in need of care is particularly at risk of becoming seriously ill with Covid. People in need of care and their relatives have many questions, worries and fears in this difficult situation.

To the S1 guideline

Aim

The S1 guideline is intended for outpatient care services and is intended to provide information on protective, hygiene and isolation measures, answer questions from people in need of care and their relatives and provide information on what to do in the event of a Covid infection.

Methods

The guideline group was formed in spring 2020 to define the central topic and formulate five key questions. This was followed by a systematic literature search - and analysis taking into account new findings. Working groups drew up recommendations on these key questions based on the literature and expert knowledge.

Results

The "living guideline" contains 34 recommendations on protective, hygiene and isolation measures and on maintaining care and quality of life for people in need of care and their relatives. It provides information and decision-making aids for the situations "Not infected", "Suspected Covid infection" and "Suffering from Covid".
