Our environmental policy: commitment and motivation for all
The environmental policy is the manageable summary of our sustainability strategy for internal and external Communications.
It is intended to commit and constantly motivate us and our environment and is therefore part of our QM system.
As a place of medical innovation and as a university, the Medical School has a special responsibility for the sustainable, conscious use of the environment and resources.
Our environmental policy is derived from the MHH mission statement:
"We take responsibility with our actions and use our resources conscientiously, purposefully and sustainably."
Sustainable action is not only a continuous challenge for daily practice and the exercise of social responsibility, but it is also a necessary academic topic to which the MHH wishes to devote itself. MHH and its members understand sustainability to mean the integrative optimization of ecological, economic and social dimensions from individual activities to the strategic orientation of MHH.
This environmental policy is not only the responsibility of the institution itself, but also the responsibility of each member within the framework of a general culture of sustainability.
The principles of our guideline in detail:
We comply with all relevant environmental laws and regulations. We regularly monitor and assess the impact of our activities on people and the environment.
We also check the environmental impact of new fields of activity, products, working methods and work processes in advance.
We promote our employees' sense of responsibility and skills through training and information in order to motivate them to act in an environmentally conscious manner. Our executives set an example both internally and externally.
We use the technical and economic possibilities to continuously reduce our environmental impact and resource consumption. We critically review our consumption of materials, raw materials and energy and look for environmentally friendly alternatives. We integrate resource-saving technologies and analyze and improve operational processes.
We make it clear to our partners how important environmentally conscious action is to us. We work together with them to strengthen sustainable business practices. We take sustainability and environmental protection into account when making investments and purchasing products and services, insofar as this is permitted by hygiene regulations and is possible under procurement and budgetary law.
Sustainability is integrated as a cross-cutting topic in research and teaching. In awareness of its multiplier function, the MHH awakens students' understanding of the consequences of human
intervention in the environment and points out possible more sustainable solutions. In return, student suggestions are actively sought and evaluated for implementation.
The MHH particularly supports projects that primarily pursue sustainable development goals and make a positive contribution to environmental protection. Great importance is attached to interdisciplinary thinking.
In cooperation with the state, the MHH is striving to fundamentally improve its environmental footprint by renovating and modernizing existing buildings and constructing new ones. The protection of the environment and natural resources are taken into account from the outset in construction measures. We strive for optimal use of space and resource-efficient management of the buildings. Nursing of outdoor areas, green spaces and bodies of water is also carried out in an environmentally friendly manner.
The exchange with external organizations is important to us. We contribute to the regional, national and international exchange of knowledge and findings on sustainability, environmental protection and resource conservation.
We make MHH's environmental policy comprehensible and transparent. We are happy to accept suggestions from outside in an open dialog. Regular environmental reports and sustainability reports provide information on the goals and status of environmental protection and resource conservation.
