Interdisciplinary Extremities Board
The interdisciplinary Extremities Board at the MHH develops binding therapy concepts for the treatment of complex chronic and acute injuries to the upper and lower extremities. Representatives from the specialist disciplines of trauma surgery, interventional radiology and plastic reconstructive surgery work together to develop a strategy from initial treatment to the planning of rehabilitative aftercare, including possible modern prosthetic fittings.
Specialized care:
- Complex fractures with extensive soft tissue damage
- Exposed functional structures such as nerves, vessels, tendons and bones
- non-healing fractures (pseudarthroses)
- Acute or chronic bone inflammation (osteomyelitis)
- Infected or exposed endoprostheses (e.g. knee TEP)
- impending amputations, poorly loadable or painful amputation stumps
- Injuries to the large nerve plexuses (brachial plexus and lumbosacral plexus)
- Primary or secondary complications as part of reconstruction procedures following trauma or tumor surgery
The Extremities Board team is also available to external Clinical Departments and physicians within the scope of possible patient presentations and
transfers.
