Formal information

The additional further training "Psychotherapy - subject-specific" in the orientation of behavioral therapy requires specialist recognition in patient-oriented care*.

The additional training can be undertaken on a part-time basis.

The complete additional training (psychotherapy and group psychotherapy) is carried out in a structured curriculum over a period of approx. 3 years.

The training takes place at the Training Institute for Behavioral Therapy and Behavioral Medicine (AVVM) at Hannover Medical School and the Institute's cooperation partners. Prof. Dr. Kai G. Kahl is authorized for all modules of the additional training.

Course of further training and timetable

Weekend seminars: Self-awareness (150 hours), progressive muscle relaxation (32 hours), interactional case work (70 hours) and case discussions (60 hours) are carried out in 16 weekend seminars over a period of approx. 2 years. A repeat seminar is planned for those participants who are unable to attend individual days or a weekend due to illness, for example.

This is the ideal way to impart the necessary knowledge and skills, and it is also easy for participants to plan their training. The training takes place on Friday 15:00-20:00, Saturday 09:00-18:00 and Sunday 09:00-15:00.

The theory seminars (140 hours, including 40 hours of e-learning) take place at the AVVM. The theoretical seminars on group psychotherapy (48 hours) also take place at the AVVM.

The individual (240 hours) and group (60 hours)behavioral therapy sessions take place at the AVVM, Hannover Medical School and/or cooperating institutions.
Supervision of the individual and group behavioral psychotherapy always takes place with a person authorized for the respective module (usually Prof. Dr. Kahl).

The psychiatric and psychosomatic examinations (at least 50 cases, 20 of which are supervised) and the handling of psychological crises (10 cases) take place at the AVVM of Hannover Medical School and/or in cooperating institutions. If possible, work shadowing in the Clinical Department of Psychiatry, Social- and Psychological Therapy will be sought.
