Cariology
Our guiding principle: Conserve the substance!
Caries is a disease of the hard dental tissue - tooth enamel and dentin (dentin) - which occurs as a result of a high-sugar diet involving certain bacteria. Despite comprehensive prevention concepts, the WHO (World Health Organization) still ranks caries fourth worldwide in terms of treatment costs for chronic diseases! In addition to caries-related destruction of the tooth structure, other diseases of the tooth structure such as erosions, which are caused by the consumption of acidic drinks or reflux of stomach acid, for example, are becoming increasingly important. Our aim is to prevent the occurrence of dental diseases through education and prevention and to detect possible damage to the tooth structure at an early stage. If treatment is necessary, we use therapies that largely preserve the remaining tooth structure. This is possible by means of direct fillings made of tooth-colored plastics. With the help of these modern materials, we can not only make classic fillings, we also carry out substance-preserving reshaping (shape changes) of teeth with atypical tooth shapes or acid-related damage as well as tooth widening. In the case of major loss of substance, laboratory-made restorations made of ceramic or gold complement our range of treatments. We also offer tooth whitening for pronounced tooth discoloration. If a filling is defective, in many cases a long-term stable repair can be carried out instead of a complete replacement, which is much less invasive than a new restoration. Sometimes the caries is so small (initial caries) that no filling needs to be placed. In these cases, we offer specific prevention concepts and/or the filling of the initial caries with a resin (infiltration) to prevent the caries from progressing and the need for a filling. In our Clinical Department, two specialists in the field of restorative tooth preservation and prevention as well as other comprehensively trained dentists have many years of expertise in the aforementioned treatment options.
