The MHH is known worldwide for its expertise in the field of transplant medicine. One of the largest centers for pediatric blood stem cell transplants has also been established here.
The spectrum of our therapies ranges from autologous to allogeneic blood stem cell transplantation. A particular focus is on the transplantation of children with particularly malignant leukemias, immunodeficiencies, metabolic disorders and genetic disorders of hematopoiesis.
Specialized in bone marrow transplants
Our KMT specialists coordinate several international studies with the aim of developing new, rationally justifiable standardized transplantation procedures together with other large centers. This procedure also ensures better medical care, as external quality controls are constantly carried out. Transplantation studies originating in Hanover concern acute myeloid leukemia as well as congenital diseases of the metabolism, immune system and hematopoiesis.
A transplant ward requires the highest standards of a low-germ environment - our patients are often not allowed to leave their room for many days. We were therefore one of the first European centers to develop an innovative concept to make the children's stay easier. Very spacious single rooms give our patients plenty of room to play and attend school. Parents can also be admitted as inpatients. Although this concept requires a great deal of effort, it makes this difficult time of transplantation easier for families and helps them to cope with the transition to outpatient aftercare.
For many diseases, current transplant medicine also reaches its limits. Interdisciplinary structures and dedicated staff have helped Hannover to become one of the leading international Facilities or Institutions in the development of new transplantation concepts. It may therefore be possible for us to offer your child innovative treatment methods that are not available anywhere else in the world in this form.
Since 2014, we have been accredited according to JACIE, a high international quality standard that is regularly evaluated externally.
