Dr. Christoph Happel completed his medical studies at the University of Frankfurt/Main. After a rotation at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and in the Department of Anaesthesia at Heidelberg University Hospital, he has been working in the Pediatric Clinic at Hannover Medical School since 2001. He has a special interest in pediatric intensive care medicine and pediatric cardiology. From 2013 to 2015, he worked as a pediatric cardiologist for 2 years as a senior physician in the field of "interventional therapy of congenital heart defects" at the Heart and Diabetes Center Bad Oeynhausen and the Children's Heart Center at the University Hospital Giessen. Since mid-2015, he has been a senior physician in the cardiac catheterization laboratory at Hannover Medical School.
Dr. Happel's work focuses on clinical care in the field of interventional therapy and diagnosis of congenital heart defects. His clinical and scientific interests include the continuous improvement of therapeutic options by minimizing risks and, for example, the use of innovative procedures for the integration of imaging data sets in interventional therapy. Other areas of interest include valve replacement using catheter technology and the treatment of extracardiac vascular constrictions (e.g. portal vein stenosis, venous constrictions or vascular occlusions).
Dr. Happel has a sound basic scientific background in addition to his clinical training. After his medical doctorate, he obtained his PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) in Molecular Medicine at the MHH.
Dr. Happel is a member of the Society for Pediatric Cardiology (GPK), the German Sepsis Society (DSG) and the European Association for Pediatric Cardiology (AEPC). He is an instructor, instructor trainer and course director for Europe-wide certified resuscitation courses of the European Resuscitation Council.
