PD Dr. Thomas Jack completed his medical studies in Marburg and Hanover. After completing his doctorate at the Medical University, he began his pediatric training at the MHH Children's Hospital in 2003. From the very beginning, his focus was on pediatric intensive care medicine and pediatric cardiology. After obtaining his specialist qualification in 2010, he went on to specialize in intensive care medicine for children and adolescents in 2015. Dr. Thomas Jack has worked as a senior physician in the Department of Paediatric Cardiology and Intensive Care Medicine in intensive care unit 67 since 2012.
In addition to his work as a senior physician on the interdisciplinary paediatric intensive care unit, PD Dr. Thomas Jack focuses on standardization and quality assurance in paediatric intensive care medicine.
A particular focus in science and training is the development of safety standards in infusion therapy. He is one of the founding members of the Safety Expert Team (SET) Infusion Management at Hannover Medical School and is also active as a risk manager for the Risk Management Administrative Unit. As part of these activities, he developed several course modules as part of the team to improve the level of training in the Nursing and Medical professions on the above-mentioned topics, which attracted national attention. As part of the quality management team, he is responsible for the regular organization and implementation of mortality and morbidity meetings.
In addition, he is clinically and scientifically involved in the extracorporeal organ replacement programme at the paediatric clinic of the Medical School. A further focus of his work is optimizing the care of organ transplant patients (liver, kidney, lung, heart) in the paediatric intensive care unit.
Together with Dr. Michael Sasse and PD Dr. Kathrin Seidemann, he was responsible for planning, setting up and equipping a pediatric intensive care unit using donations at the Teaching Hospital Karapitiya in Galle, Sri Lanka.
Since 2013, PD Dr. Thomas Jack has been active as a hygiene officer in the Department of Pediatric Cardiology and Intensive Care Medicine.
