Dear Colleagues,

we are very pleased to welcome you again this year to our continuing education
program “Current Hepatology.” Hepatology
is currently undergoing a period of extraordinary dynamism. After
years of research, new diagnostic and therapeutic options are now emerging for several liver
diseases. With
this event, we would like to provide you with a practical overview of
important advances in the diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases
.

In the first part, Prof. Dr. med. Heike Bantel will discuss the new pharmacological treatment options for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in an interdisciplinary context.
MASLD is currently undoubtedly one of the most research-intensive
topics in hepatology. Despite the increasing number of
drug options, lifestyle interventions remain a central component of
treatment. PD Dr. Sven Haufe from our local sports medicine department will therefore
go on to shed light on the importance of physical activity in MASLD and other
liver diseases. We will conclude the first session block
with an overview of current developments in
genetic and cholestatic liver diseases. Prof. Dr. Carola Dröge
will lead this segment. In this area as well, after
a long wait, innovative therapeutic approaches have found their way into clinical
care.

After the break, we will turn our attention to viral hepatitis. Prof. Dr. Markus
Cornberg, coordinator of the German and European HBV guidelines,
will report on new treatment options for hepatitis B,
focusing in particular on current developments toward functional
cure strategies. Following this, Dr. med. Nora Proske
will provide an update on hepatitis E, a disease whose clinical relevance
continues to be frequently underestimated.

The scientific program will conclude with a presentation by PD Dr. med.
Tammo Tergast on long-term outcomes and surveillance
following HCV infection. Despite the highly effective
antiviral therapies available today, long-term care for many patients
remains of great importance.

We sincerely thank you for your interest in this continuing education
program and look forward to an exciting scientific
exchange as well as lively discussions with you.

Sincerely,
Prof. Dr. med. Heike Bantel, Prof. Dr. med. Benjamin Maasoumy,
Prof. Dr. med. Heiner Wedemeyer

Open to anyone interested.
