On the first Sunday of Advent, the Choir and Symphony Orchestra of the Hannover Medical School (MHH) will jointly perform three festive works that promise a special concert experience.
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s overture “Ruy Blas” will open the concert with verve and musical excitement. Grand orchestral brilliance meets lyrical moments, making this short Romantic masterpiece a rousing start to the concert. Oscillating between dreamy poetry and fascinating virtuosity, Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 unfolds a world of sound all its own. Delicate melodies, surprising rhythmic twists, and a dance-like lightness combine to create a work of extraordinary expressiveness. John Rutter’s “Magnificat” is a festive, dramatic, and sonically rich setting of the Marian canticle that blends elements of sacred choral music with echoes of gospel, jazz, and Latin American rhythms, creating a work that is both sacred and decidedly lively. Deep tranquility and jubilant joy lie side by side here—a musical experience that speaks directly to the heart.
Open to anyone interested.
