Nursing Ethics Symposium: Advance Care Planning. Between Autonomy, Care, and Reality

Advance Care Planning (ACP) refers to a structured process of advance healthcare planning in which people are supported in clarifying and articulating their wishes regarding future medical decisions and coordinating them with their loved ones and the care team.
ACP is gaining particular importance in elder care, where chronic illnesses, increasing vulnerability, and complex care situations shape daily life. It provides guidance, strengthens self-determination, and simultaneously relieves the burden on healthcare professionals by offering confidence in making decisions in difficult situations.
With this year’s Nursing Ethics Symposium, we aim to examine this important approach from an ethical perspective. Expert presentations will introduce the background and forms of Advance Care Planning and highlight opportunities and limitations in its application. Interactive workshops and practical examples invite participants to share experiences, identify challenges and difficulties, and jointly develop perspectives for a responsible approach in the future.
We look forward to a day of exchange, reflection, and inspiration for our daily work in Nursing, Counseling, and Support.
