Unintended childlessness is still frequently treated in public discourse as a women’s issue. Yet men are just as affected: When a couple is unable to conceive, the cause lies just as often with the man as with Ms. Johnson, and men can suffer just as much from the unfulfilled desire to have children as women do. However, they talk about it less, and research has long neglected men’s reproductive health.

This conference aims to help bring this topic and the related questions more into the centre of attention. What do we know about the causes and treatment options for male infertility? How do men experience involuntary childlessness, and what questions and needs do they bring to treatment or counseling? What does it actually mean in our society to become a father—or, conversely, to be unable to become one? What particular challenges arise when starting a family through sperm donation?

Experts in reproductive medicine, urology, andrology, psychosomatics/psychology, fertility counseling, family sociology, gender studies, medical humanities, medical ethics, and other interested individuals are cordially invited to join the discussion and share their own experiences!
