Anesthesia in urology
The Clinical Department of Urology and Urological Oncology at the MHH covers all areas of the subject and offers all diagnostic and therapeutic options. Our competent anesthesiology team therefore cares for a large number of different patients who have individual needs depending on their illness, age, type of procedure and any previous illnesses. In addition to the anaesthesiological care of numerous routine procedures such as transurethral resections of the prostate and bladder (ThuLEP, TUR-P, TUR-B) or endoscopic treatment of stones in the kidney, ureter and bladder, our specialized team also provides highly qualified care for critically ill patients who have to undergo major surgery. A large number of surgical interventions in this specialist area are performed for malignant diseases. The patients - a disproportionately high number of geriatric patients with typical concomitant diseases such as CHD, COPD, diabetes mellitus and renal insufficiency - are often multimorbid, meaning that individually tailored perioperative anaesthesiological care can be crucial.
In urological anaesthesia, all modern anaesthetic procedures are used, from local anaesthesia and regional anaesthesia close to the spinal cord to classic general anaesthesia. Our range of services also includes combined anesthesiological procedures such as the insertion of a peridural catheter (patient-controlled epidural anesthesia, PCEA) as a useful supplement to general anesthesia.
Robot-assisted surgical procedures have become widespread due to good surgical conditions and a high level of post-operative patient comfort and are also offered in the Clinical Department of Urology at the MHH. These operations require special anesthesiological management and are regularly supervised by us.
