Numerous modern treatment procedures have only become possible thanks to medical advances in anesthesiology and intensive care medicine. Today, we can accompany you safely through operations and critical illnesses, even with advanced illnesses and in old age. Treatment in an intensive care unit is both physically and psychologically demanding for patients and their relatives, and we are aware of our responsibility towards you. Before and during your treatment, we discuss how best to act together with you.

Special treatment in an intensive care unit is often necessary not only after high-risk surgical procedures, but also in the context of serious internal illnesses, so that vital organ functions can be maintained or restored.

The Clinical Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine has a total of 14 beds on Ward 44 for all surgical and non-surgical departments at Hannover Medical School. In cooperation with the Clinical Department of Neurosurgery, we also have 7 additional intensive care beds available for patient care on Ward 34.

Our strength is our interdisciplinary approach to treatment. Through close cooperation with all departments at Hannover Medical School, we combine our strengths and develop individual treatment paths tailored to each patient.

In combination with our expertise in the field of pain therapy, we achieve the best possible care for our patients. Teamwork is important to us and contributes decisively to the success of the therapeutic efforts on our wards through dedicated cooperation between physicians, nursing staff and therapists.

The staff of the Clinical Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine are part of the in-house emergency team and ensure internal emergency care in the main MHH hospital. We are at your side when you need our help!

Study and teaching

In addition to patient care and research in intensive care medicine, we are committed to training and further education for doctors, nurses and students.

Junior physicians, trainee nurses, I-course participants and PJ students are supported by specialist staff on our wards.

Intensive care medicine seminars are held regularly as part of student teaching, which integrate theoretical knowledge transfer of intensive care medical conditions and patient rounds on the intensive care unit.

Research

Modern treatment procedures and their further development require a continuous gain in knowledge.

We take part in intensive care research projects so that you as a patient can benefit as much as possible from modern treatment concepts. As a patient, you are the focus of our efforts, and with your support and help we are constantly developing intensive care medicine.

Thank you for supporting us as a patient!
