Educational support at the MHH Children's Hospital is provided by four educators and a volunteer. The play oasis is a place where the children can feel comfortable and distract themselves. The word oasis describes a place of recreation and relaxation for the sick children and adolescents, where they can play and do handicrafts, for example. Contact with other patients in the Clinical Department is also an important aspect that takes place in the play oasis and can also be intensified.

Target group

The care services are aimed at all children and adolescents admitted to the children's hospital. The focus is on children with disabilities and those who have little or no parental supervision. Siblings are only looked after in the play oasis in special situations. A short routine medical examination is necessary for this.

The Kidsarena was equipped by Hannover 96 plus. This is where, for example, autograph sessions with professional footballers take place. The young people can also retreat to the Kidsarena during their stay at the clinic, play on the games consoles, watch a movie or just chill out.

Another focus of our work is to support parents in their special situation. We also try to relieve parents as much as possible by giving them the freedom to leave the hospital room or even the hospital grounds for a few hours.

Furthermore, we are of course available to talk to them about their fears and worries during their stay in hospital. Once a week, we offer parents a parents' coffee to exchange ideas and make contact.

Our educational work

The work of the educators at the children's hospital is not just about education in the usual sense. We accompany children and adolescents during their inpatient stay and provide help and support in processing and coping with hospitalization. In concrete terms, this means that through our work we want to...

  • build up a trusting relationship,
  • provide friendly support as a discussion partner,
  • be a comforting and supportive companion during medical procedures,
  • be partners in the game,
  • allow them to express their fears and other emotional feelings,
  • represent the children's legal rights,
  • Cooperation with various clubs (e.g. Hannover 96, Hannover Indians etc.)
