What can we give the boss as a parting gift? The directors of the Institutes and Clinical Departments thought about this at their forum meeting last December. Prof. Dr. Michael Manns would be handing over the MHH presidency to his successor, Prof. Dr. Denise Hilfiker-Kleiner, at the end of 2024. The decisive tip finally came from the President's wife: Cornelia Manns knew that her husband would be delighted with a donation to the Green Ladies and Gentlemen. The idea was well received by the entire forum - and Ruth Bolten, the chairwoman of the volunteers, was able to accept a cheque for 4,000 euros on February 10.

The Green Ladies and Gentlemen are a permanent institution at MHH. The 35 volunteers, recognizable by their bright green coats, are there for patients every working day. They help with filling out paperwork, visit patients, distribute drinks in outpatient clinics and waiting areas, run small errands and are always ready to listen to patients' worries and needs. "The great commitment of the Green Ladies and Gentlemen is unfortunately too rarely recognized and appreciated. But we really appreciate their work," emphasized Prof. Dr. Heiner Wedemeyer. The Director of the Clinical Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Infectious Diseases and Endocrinology handed over the donation from the clinic and institute management together with Professor Dr. Martina de Zwaan, Director of the Clinical Department of Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy.

Ruth Bolten was delighted with the donation. "We will invest the money in trips to federal conferences with workshops and specialist lectures," she said and thanked Professor Manns for always supporting the Green Ladies and Gentlemen during his presidency.
