The North German Society for Gastroenterology confers a special award

On 28 and 29 March 2025, the North German Gastroenterology Day 2025 took place, at which the North German Society for Gastroenterology e.V. bestowed a special honor: The awarding of honorary membership to the renowned Prof. Dr. med. Michael P. Manns. This award is a sign of recognition of Professor Manns' exceptional achievements in gastroenterology, which make him one of the leading experts in his field.

Professor Manns is an internationally recognized expert in gastroenterology and hepatology. His career is characterized by a multitude of successes and awards. From 1991 to 2020, he was Director of the Clinical Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology at Hannover Medical School (MHH), from 2015 to 2018 Clinical Director of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig and Founding Director of the Centre for Individualised Infection Medicine (CIIM) in Hannover. He has been a senior professor at the MHH since January 1, 2025.

His research focuses on the treatment and research of liver diseases, in particular viral hepatitis, autoimmune liver diseases, hepatocellular carcinoma, transplantation medicine, regenerative medicine and clinical pharmacology. He has published more than 1000 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Nature, Nature Medicine, Cell, Gastroenterology and Hepatology. His h-index is > 123 (Web of Science, March 2022), making him one of the most cited scientists worldwide.

The honorary membership of the Norddeutsche Gesellschaft für Gastroenterologie e.V. is a sign of recognition of Professor Manns' extraordinary achievements in gastroenterology. It honors not only his scientific achievements, but also his many years of work for the society and the promotion of gastroenterology in northern Germany.
