Station 38 shines in new splendor after renovation

A day to celebrate: Ward 38 was officially reopened on April 10. Thanks to the refurbishment, it has a new ambience - modern, bright and friendly. Patients, staff and visitors alike are delighted with the new look. The ward is shared by the Clinical Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Infectious Diseases and Endocrinology and the Clinical Department of Cardiology and Angiology.

"Inpatient treatment requires both optimal medical care and that patients can stay in as pleasant an environment as possible - despite being in hospital," says Prof. Dr. Heiner Wedemeyer, Director of the Gastroenterology Clinical Department. While the medical care on the ward was already of a high standard before, it is now also possible to offer a great atmosphere for patients to feel at ease. This applies above all to the sanitary facilities in the patient rooms. They have been completely refurbished and equipped to a high standard. "This allows us to offer our patients significantly more comfort," emphasizes Prof. Dr. Johann Bauersachs, Director of the Cardiology Clinical Department.

But the ward is also impressive outside the patient rooms. The corridor has been renovated and redesigned with landscape motifs. The "functional side" with physicians' rooms, ward base, staff kitchen and rinsing and disposal room was also renovated. At the same time, the ward also switched to a modular supply system, which means that medication and medical products are provided in containers as required. The entire refurbishment was coordinated by Oliver Thiele and Dieter Homann from MHH Construction Management.

Gastroenterology and cardiology have been working together on ward 38 for a long time. "Many of our patients have health problems that affect both specialties. Our interaction is therefore very important," explains Professor Bauersachs. "The close contact allows us to exchange information at a low threshold and beyond the official consultations," adds Professor Wedemeyer.

Ward 38 is located on the eighth floor of the ward block. When the weather is clear, patients have a fantastic view. With a bit of luck, they may even be able to see the Brocken in the Harz mountains.
