Prof. Dr. Dr. Heiner Wedemeyer has been Co-Editor of the Journal of Hepatology, the world's most important scientific liver journal, since October 1, 2024. The importance of a journal is reflected, among other things, in the so-called impact factor, which indicates how publications in a journal are cited by other scientists. At 26.8, the Journal of Hepatology is by far the leader in the field of liver diseases. The new Editor-in-Chief of the journal is Prof. Dr. Dr. Vlad Ratziu from Paris, who is an expert in the field of metabolic liver diseases. He is supported by six co-editors from Norway, England, Switzerland, Italy and Germany. Prof. Dr. Dr. Heiner Wedemeyer will be responsible for publications in the journal in the fields of viral hepatitis, liver transplantation, acute liver failure and immunology. The fact that he has been given this task shows how exceptional the international reputation of the MHH is in the field of hepatology. In recent years, numerous groups from our Clinical Department have published highly regarded papers in the Journal of Hepatology, including the groups led by Prof. Dr. Amar Sharma and Prof. Dr. Dr. Benjamin Maasoumy.
