Coronary surgery

PD Dr. Alina Zubarevich, MHBA

Bypass surgery is the treatment of choice for many patients with coronary artery disease, i.e. a blockage or narrowing of the coronary arteries.

Depending on the findings, either the patient's veins or arteries (chest wall and brachial artery) or a combination of both are used as bypass material. In our Clinical Department, we have extensive experience with the sole use of arteries to bypass diseased sections of the coronary arteries (total arterial revascularization). In addition, the Clinical Department for HTTG offers all modern bypass surgery procedures. In some cases, the use of a heart-lung machine is not necessary. The minimally invasive creation of bypasses, in which only a small incision is made in the side of the chest, is also part of our range of operations. We can also operate on patients with acute myocardial infarction immediately and without delay. In this way, the otherwise rapidly progressing damage to the heart muscle can be reduced to a minimum.

Referring cardiologists can contact the heart team directly via the senior physician on duty and can obtain information about treatment solutions immediately. Good results and low complication rates are what count for us. Our inpatients are treated at home relatively early on in consultation with their GPs and specialists or can begin follow-up treatment.

Main areas of treatment

  • Minimally invasive techniques including off-pump revascularization (i.e. without a heart-lung machine)
  • Total arterial coronary revascularization, use of arterial grafts including the internal mammary artery and radial artery (chest wall and brachial artery)
  • Bypass treatment in acute myocardial infarction
  • Reconstruction of complex lesions of the coronary arteries
  • Treatment of secondary complications associated with coronary heart disease (ventricular aneurysm, ventricular septal defect, cardiac pump failure)
  • Coronary surgery with modern perfusion systems (mini-heart-lung machine)
