Transplantation and artificial heart outpatient clinic
PD Dr. Heidi Görler, MBA
The focus of the transplantation and artificial heart outpatient clinic is on the treatment of patients with advanced heart failure of any cause. The outpatient clinic is aimed at patients with heart muscle disease, coronary heart disease or heart valve disease as well as patients after heart transplantation or after implantation of a mechanical heart support system. Patients after lung or heart-lung transplants are also cared for in the outpatient clinic in cooperation with the Clinical Department of Pneumology. Special expertise exists in the care of patients with combined organ transplants, such as heart-kidney or heart-liver transplants, in close cooperation with the relevant specialist departments.
An essential task in the treatment of patients with advanced heart failure, who present to the outpatient clinic at regular intervals, is the professional assessment of inclusion on the transplant waiting list or the indication for mechanical circulatory support, as well as the care of patients during the waiting period.
The comprehensive aftercare of the more than 1000 heart transplant patients who have been treated in the outpatient clinic in recent years primarily involves close monitoring of the function of the donor organ and individual adjustment of the necessary immunosuppressive therapy. Furthermore, the focus is on the early detection of possible complications in connection with the transplant, including rejection, infections and transplant vasculopathy.
