Internships at the Institute

Institute of History, Ethics and Philosophy of Medicine

Our Institute offers compulsory and voluntary internships for students of all subjects and universities who are interested in the history of medicine or medical/research ethics.

During an internship, students have the opportunity to carry out their own small research project, work on ongoing projects or support the general running of the institute. In doing so, they can deepen their methodological and thematic knowledge, but also get to know working at an interdisciplinary humanities and social sciences Institute. Specific prior knowledge of the history of medicine or medical/research ethics is not required.

If you are interested in a possible internship, we ask you to first find out about the four working groups at our Institute, the respective research topics or our current publications via the website, so that you can check whether an internship with us suits your interests or in which working group you would most likely like to complete the internship.

For your application for an internship, please write a concise cover letter (also possible as an e-mail text) in which you state, among other things, your background (study programs, semester, university), the planned duration of the internship and your preferred date. Please enclose a tabular CV, proof of your studies (e.g. confirmation of enrolment or a current transcript of records) and a short letter of motivation (1/2 to 1 page maximum). The letter of motivation should include, for example, why you would like to complete an internship with us, what knowledge or experience would be important to you in the internship, which specific topics would be of particular interest to you, or whether you have already attended courses related to medical history or medical/research ethics. Depending on your area of interest, please send your application to the following responsible persons in the working groups:

If you cannot be clearly assigned to a working group, please send your application to Ms. Britta Sander.

Please note that for capacity reasons it is not always possible for us to offer an internship. Unfortunately, it is also not possible for us to remunerate an internship.
