Donor information

Dear donor, dear donor,

Blood products that are produced from donations in a cell separator (so-called apheresis donations) are becoming increasingly important for the care of seriously ill people. In addition to platelets (thrombocytes) and stem cells, various types of immune cells can be donated, which are irreplaceable for immunotherapeutic treatments of infectious diseases and tumors.
Some of the new blood products can only be produced at a few centers worldwide. As a university hospital providing supramaximal care, Hannover Medical School is one of these centers.
We must therefore make greater use of our capacities in future for life-saving special preparations from apheresis donations. At the same time, we must focus on preparations for special requirements in whole blood donation, for example to be able to supply patients with rare blood groups or multiple antibodies or to carry out intrauterine transfusions. This will also make it possible to make appointments so that waiting times can be reduced. In order to meet the MHH's high demand for blood products, we will continue to work closely with other blood donation services.

Due to these necessary changes, we would like to inform you that whole blood donations will initially take place

Fridays from 7-9 a.m. by appointment.

can take place. We will inform you about additional new donation times in good time.
