Biostatistics, omics technologies and Big Data (BD P 10)
Qualification goals
The module provides basic knowledge of biostatistics and omics techniques. The students deal with basic applications from the fields of Genomics, Transcriptomics, Proteomics, Metabolomics and Glycomics. They learn methodological, bioinformatic and biostatistical approaches for planning, evaluating and interpreting experiments from these areas.
Competencies
After successfully completing the module, students will be able to
- plan omics experiments independently, taking into account key points such as the number of samples, sample collection, hypotheses/research questions, the statistical evaluation concept based on these and the costs incurred.
- evaluate, interpret and assess the generated data using basic biostatistical methods.
- use bioinformatic and statistical programs, interpret the results and draw conclusions and inferences from them.
