Pregnancy and maternity protection
Pregnant or breastfeeding students can and should first contact the degree program coordinator (confidentially).
Here you will receive initial information and instructions; together we will discuss how you can continue your studies under these circumstances with as little delay as possible or whether an academic leave of absence would make more sense for you.
You can complete almost all of our modules as usual, with minor changes to the practical laboratory components. You can find an initial overview of the potential risks here in ILIAS.
The following steps are necessary if you discover that you are pregnant:
1. inform the Student Office and register the pregnancy. The MHH is obliged to report this to the Trade Supervisory Office.
2. you decide for or against an interruption of your studies(academicleave).
3. if you wish to continue your studies, you will receive a risk assessment checklist, which you discuss and complete with the program coordinator and the individual module coordinators. Individual protective measures or, if necessary, adjustments to practical work or substitute work are recorded here.
4. send the scan of the completed checklist by e-mail to the Student Office and the degree program coordinator. The original remains with you.
As a student, you have the option of waiving the maternity protection periods (6 weeks before the expected date of birth and 8 weeks after). This allows you to take examinations and attend courses during these periods in order to avoid an unwanted extension of your studies.
Further information on pregnancy, maternity protection and breastfeeding during your studies at the MHH is available from the Student Office.
