Cell Biology (BM P 2)

Qualification objectives
The module provides in-depth knowledge of cell biology, in particular on the following topics Organization of the cell, biological membranes, membrane traffic, protein transport, cytoskeleton, cell adhesion, cell polarity, cell cycle, autophagy, apoptosis, histology and networking of cellular systems. Methodologically, the focus is on modern light and electron microscopy techniques and selected biochemical and cell biological approaches.

Competencies
The module focuses on the ability to analyze experimental approaches, develop their own experimental strategies and critically evaluate scientific publications. To this end, students train in exercises and seminars to analyze cell biological data from the literature, present them in German and English and discuss them critically. In addition, in a one-week advanced practical course in small groups of 3-5 people, students acquire the ability to independently and competently carry out experiments from current research projects of the Institute of Neuroanatomy and Cell Biology and the Central Research Facility Laser Microscopy, to critically evaluate the results, to relate them to current literature and to present them.
