Module description

Glycosylation is crucial for physiological and pathological cell functions. In this module we introduce some key roles of glycans and explain how changes in glycosylation can lead to disease. Glycans can activate the immune system or enable immune evasion of a pathogen. They can also modulate the inflammatory response, promote the metastasis of cancer cells or regulate the function of cytokines. They are crucial for brain development and are associated with neurodegenerative diseases.
