Qualification objectives
The lecture teaches the principles of the molecular pathogenesis of cancer and the resulting consequences for diagnostic and therapeutic practice. The relevance of the topic lies in the frequency of cancer and the increasing importance of molecular pathology in the modern diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Competencies
Lecture: By participating in the seminar, students have a basic understanding of the principles of the development of solid and non-solid tumors (leukemias, lymphomas) as well as numerous analytical methods used in tumor research and routine diagnostics. This provides them with skills that can be used in a later career in the fields of cancer research, tumor diagnostics and drug development for cancer therapy. In addition, students are given an introductory insight into neurodegenerative diseases, which are also becoming increasingly important in many respects in an ageing society.
Internship: Students are familiar with a range of methods used in research and diagnostics to examine tissue samples from cancer patients. By participating in the internship, students will have an understanding of the challenges and difficulties of molecular diagnostics as well as the capabilities and limitations of the methods used. The focus is on a detailed examination of the principles of the methods used and a critical discussion of the results obtained.
