Intended learning outcomes
The module provides in-depth theoretical knowledge of the biology of embryonic, adult and reprogrammed stem cells.

Competencies
Lecture: Participants are able to recognize basic biological principles and present them comparatively. Participants are familiar with current research in the field of regenerative therapies with a focus on the regeneration of soft tissue (heart muscle, lungs). They will be able to transfer basic cell biology knowledge to application-oriented (pre-)clinical research concepts in these areas.
Participants will be able to recognize the opportunities and risks of new therapeutic concepts and assess them in terms of feasibility, clinical need and ethical issues.
Internship: Participants will be able to carry out basic (stem) cell culture techniques, including basic tissue engineering techniques, as well as the molecular and immunohistological characterization of cells and tissues used to address current issues in the research areas described above. They are able to independently structure, analyze and professionally present the results of complex experimental procedures.
Participants will be able to understand a scientific publication from the subject area of the lecture and place it in the context of current research. They will be able to present the results of their analysis in a professional manner by coherently explaining and critically assessing the methodology, results and conclusions of the publications.
