Prof. Dr. med. Alexander von zur Mühlen (1936-2025)

The Clinical Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Infectious Diseases and Endocrinology at Hannover Medical School mourns the death of Prof. Dr. med. Alexander von zur Mühlen, who passed away at the age of 89.

Prof. Dr. Dr. von zur Mühlen headed the Department of Clinical Endocrinology at the Center for Internal Medicine and Dermatology from 1974 to 2001. Under his leadership, endocrinology was developed into an independent center, and from 1985 he also took over the management of diabetology. He not only rendered outstanding services to patient care, but also to the further training of his medical colleagues. He was a recognized pioneer in his field, both regionally and nationally.
In him, we are not only losing an outstanding physician and scientist, but also a valuable colleague and fellow human being. Our thanks go to him for his life's work. Our sincere condolences go to his family and loved ones.
