Research and teaching in sonography

The special feature of our clinic is the close networking of research and Clinical Department. Scientific research is essential in order to gain new insights and thus constantly improve the treatment of our patients. But teaching and regular further training also constantly improve the treatment of our patients.

The following section gives you an overview of some of the scientific projects being carried out in the Sonography Department of the Clinical Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology.

Scientific projects

  • Studies on the use of ultrasound contrast agents outside the liver in selected patient groups (e.g. gallbladder polyps).
  • Evaluation of different methods of elastography and tissue characterization for staging and therapy progression in patients with chronic liver disease.
  • Evaluation of sonographic criteria and new procedures for therapy monitoring of patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Evaluation of the course in special patient groups (e.g. pregnant women with FNH).
  • Long-term follow-up after sonography-guided interventions (e.g. cyst sclerotherapy).
  • Virtual sonography (e.g. navigation, ultrasound simulator for further training and teaching)

Teaching

  • "From practice for practice" course offered by MHH-Alumni e. V.
  • "Emergency sonography" course offered by the MHH training academy
  • "Diagnostics Day - Practical Sonography Course" Course offered by the MHH Training Academy

Further training

  • Medical Association of Lower Saxony:
Advanced training weeks Langeoog (practical medicine): Basic, advanced and refresher sonography course (with practice on ultrasound simulator)

  • Workshops:
Contrast medium sonography: theory and practical exercises
Ultrasound in chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): theory and practical exercises on the simulator

  • "Hands-On" - Ultrasound course on the simulator in cooperation with the Kassel Clinic (Prof. Dr. F. Schuppert). Sonographic findings of a Central Emergency Room: more common and less common; sonography of typical liver and biliary tract diseases ("liver module"); typical sonographic findings of the abdominal cavity including the intestine and retroperitoneum ("abdominal module").

  • "Hands-On" Abdominal Sonography - Ultrasound Simulator. (International Liver Congress [ILC] of the European Association for the Study of the Liver [EASL])
