Dr. med. Holger Leitolf - Curriculum Vitae

Holger Leitolf is a senior physician at the Clinical Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology and the Center for Internal Medicine at Hannover Medical School (MHH). After studying medicine in Würzburg and Hanover, as well as a research stay at the National Institutes of Health (NIH, Bethesda, USA) as part of his dissertation, he completed his specialist training in internal medicine in the Department of Clinical Endocrinology and the Clinical Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology at the MHH.

After another DFG-funded stay abroad as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute (Baltimore, USA) in 1997/98, he was awarded the Merck European Thyroid von-Basedow-Research-Prize of the German Society of Endocrinology (DGE) in 1999 for the publication "Bioengeneering of Human Thyrotropin Superactive Analogs by Site-directed "Lysine-Scanning" Mutagenesis of the Common αL3 Loop of Human Glycoprotein Hormones - Combinatorial Analysis of Cooperative Effects Within and Between Peripheral β-Hairpin Loops".

After being recognized as a specialist in internal medicine (2005), he acquired the specialization in endocrinology and diabetology in the same year and additionally the specialization in gastroenterology in 2006. As a senior physician (together with Christoph Terkamp), he is responsible for the endocrinology and diabetology section of the Clinical Department and has been recognized by the Medical Association of Lower Saxony as being entitled to further training in endocrinology and diabetology since 2007. He is also qualified as a DGFF® lipidologist, supervises the lipid outpatient clinic at the MHH (together with Steffen Zender) and is involved in the lipid circle in Hanover.
