Prof. Dr. med. Heike Bantel - Curriculum Vitae
Heike Bantel has been a senior physician and university professor specializing in hepatology in the Clinical Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology at the MHH since 2009. She is a specialist in internal medicine and gastroenterology. She completed her specialist training at Tübingen University Hospital and Hannover Medical School. She also worked as a researcher at the Universities of Münster and Düsseldorf. Her clinical focus is on the treatment of patients with autoimmune, metabolic, viral, vascular and toxic liver diseases. Professor Bantel is an investigator in innovative clinical trials investigating the effect of new drugs for the treatment of chronic liver diseases such as non-alcoholic fatty liver hepatitis (NASH), primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and autoimmune hepatitis (AIH).
Prof. Bantel and her research group investigate basic and translational aspects of hepatology. A long-standing focus of her work is dedicated to the investigation of cell death mechanisms and their role in inflammatory, metabolic and malignant liver diseases.
Her research work is supported by the German Research Foundation, German Cancer Aid and various foundations. Prof. Bantel has published numerous original scientific papers and reviews in leading journals. The results of her research projects have been recognized by many high-ranking awards, such as the Martin Gülzow Prize of the DGVS, the Lower Saxony Cancer Society Sponsorship Award, the Pro-Scientia Sponsorship Award and the Innovation Award of German University Medicine.
