Welcome to the website of the Clinical Department of Neurology at the MHH!

The Clinical Department of Neurology is available for the treatment of all acute and chronic neurological diseases.

The clinical spectrum of neurology at the MHH ranges from acute Emergency Medicine (e.g. stroke, cerebral haemorrhage) to infections (e.g. meningitis, Lyme disease), brain tumors, Diseases of the peripheral nervous system (e.g. slipped discs, nerve bottlenecks, pressure paralysis, polyneuropathies), muscle diseases (e.g. myasthenia, muscle inflammation), headaches (e.g. migraine), epilepsies, immunological diseases (e.g. multiple sclerosis), through to neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, ALS).

Patients are treated both as outpatients, in the Central Emergency Room and in the outpatient clinic, and as inpatients.

The Clinical Department of Neurology has around 92 inpatient beds. All neurological conditions are treated on the private ward and the neurological general wards. Beds for patients with brain tumors are available on the interdisciplinary oncology ward. The certified supra-regional stroke unit is available for the treatment of strokes. Patients requiring special medical and nursing care are treated on the intermediate care ward. In the interdisciplinary intensive care unit, beds are managed by the Clinical Department of Neurology for special neurological clinical pictures in cooperation with the Clinical Department of Anesthesiology.

In the outpatient area, we offer special consultation hours for movement disorders (e.g. Parkinson's disease, dystonia), neuroimmunology (e.g. MS), neuromuscular diseases (e.g. ALS), and neurovascular diseases (e.g. stroke aftercare), a private outpatient clinic and an infusion outpatient clinic clinic.

Numerous diseases are treated on an interdisciplinary basis in close cooperation with other MHH Departments.

We offer structured training for physicians in further training, which includes the normal ward, stroke unit, intensive care unit, Doppler sonography, electrophysiology and psychiatry rotation.

The neurophysiology laboratory is a training center of the German Society for Clinical Neurophysiology and Functional Imaging (DGKN), the cerebrospinal fluid laboratory of the German Society for Cerebrospinal Fluid Diagnostics and Clinical Neurochemistry (DGLN).

Parallel to specialist training, we offer suitable employees the opportunity of a Clinician Scientist Program.

The close integration of basic research, clinical science and patient care is particularly important to us in order to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and quickly incorporate them into clinical care.

Thank you for your interest in our Clinical Department and please do not hesitate to contact me for further information,

Yours
