Just an intense dream or REM sleep behavior disorder?

The study introduces itself

People affected by REM-sleep behavior disorder (RBD) have an 80% probability of developing Parkinson's disease in the next 15 years .

The following symptoms are described by those affected or their partners:

  • Vivid dreams
  • Lashing out in their sleep
  • Crying in their sleep

We are currently conducting a study in which we are looking for people with REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) as test subjects.

The RBD study is researching the early detection of Parkinson's disease. To this end, we would first conduct a systematic interview with you. To confirm the diagnosis, we will then carry out a sleep analysis using video polysomnography. If you are diagnosed, further neurological clarification can take place and treatment can be initiated if necessary.

If you suspect that you have a REM sleep behavior disorder (see questionnaire), please contact us!

Help us to detect Parkinson's disease at an early stage and counteract it accordingly!

Aims of the RBD study:

  • Early detection of Parkinson's disease many years before its onset
  • Preparation of neuroprotective therapies

What is REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD)?

Our sleep is divided into two stages. There is the so-called REM stage and non-REM sleep with different depths of sleep. REM sleep is characterized by rapid eye movements.

In REM sleep, our muscles are in a relaxed state. The REM stage is also the stage in which we dream vividly.

Some people are not relaxed in this stage of vivid dream sleep, but actively live out their dreams. They scream, talk in their sleep and make movements that can even hurt themselves or their partner in some cases. In most cases, those affected are not consciously aware of their behavior in their sleep.

This may be a REM sleep behavior disorder .

Does RBD lead to Parkinson's disease?

REM sleep behavior disorder is a precursor to Parkinson's disease and therefore an important early symptom.

The probability of developing Parkinson ' s disease in the next 15 years is approx. 80 % in people with a sleep-diagnosed RBD.

Do you become a fighter in your sleep? Do you suffer from REM sleep behavior disorder?
