Growing for the science location
We currently look after 189 campus children, but demand is significantly higher, especially in the crèche area. We would therefore like to set up five new groups and offer a total of 295 places in the future new building so that physicians, nurses, scientists and many other MHH employees can go about their work - always with the reassuring feeling that their children are well looked after. And this ultimately also strengthens Hannover as a science location. Childcare is already a key issue in appointment and retention negotiations, and this trend will continue to grow in the future.
The plan is for a spacious modular building that will accommodate the educational concept of the Campuskinder with all its different facets. The daycare center works according to the so-called situational approach, which focuses on the child and its interests as they manifest themselves in everyday life. The concept was developed in the 1990s and is based on the assumption that children are most likely to learn and be engaged in the most meaningful way if these interests are taken up and the topics that are currently on the children's minds are addressed. And such a flexible pedagogy can develop best if the rooms in which it takes place can also be used flexibly. This is why, in addition to the actual group rooms, there are also differentiation rooms for movement, art and crafts. Quiet corners, nooks and crannies also play a central role, so that the children always have the opportunity to withdraw.
The new daycare center is to form its own little oasis on the busy MHH campus. To make this dream a reality as soon as possible, construction has to take place during ongoing operations. Although this is something of a challenge, it can work well with careful planning. For reasons of space, the project will be realized in two construction phases. In the first construction phase, a building for the existing ten groups of campus children will be built on an area that currently serves as a parking lot. Once the old daycare center has been demolished, there will be space for an additional building to accommodate a further five groups.
1st construction phase (2024-2025)
- ten groups with 210 places | costs: approx. 6.6 million euros
2nd construction phase (2026)
- five groups with 85 places | costs: approx. 3.4 million euros
