The "AG Kunstherzen" under the leadership of Prof. Schmitto is a core element of the HTTG and now also of the NIFE research landscape. The working group conducts groundbreaking scientific studies in the field of mechanical circulatory support, which attract a great deal of national and international attention and are published in the highest medical journals.
The focus is on improvements to current implants, new medical devices, further development of new surgical techniques, which are validated in numerous animal experiments, as well as continuous improvements to the electronic components of the implants. The continuous further development of existing systems and the development of the latest mechanical circulatory support systems are central objectives of this working group.
