LBB - Laboratory for Biomechanics and Biomaterials

The Laboratory for Biomechanics and Biomaterials (LBB) is the research facility of the Orthopaedic Clinic of the Medical School of Hannover.
Clinic Director: Prof. Dr. med. Henning Windhagen
Head Laboratory: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christof Hurschler
Laboratory for Biomechanics and Biomaterials
The primary focus of research is on experimental and clinical implant technology. The LBB was founded in 1989 by Prof. Dr. med. C. J. Wirth, Prof. Dr.-Ing. C. Hurschler has been director of the laboratory since Jund 2000. The laboratory is an open gateway for scientific transfer. This is reflected in many national and international research collaborations. The LBB is certified by the German Society for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery (DGOU) and is present in the two research areas Network for Muskuloskeletal Biomechanichs (MSB-Net) and Network for Regenerative Orthopaedics (NRO).
The research laboratory is divided into the following departments:
Biomechanics/Kinematics Institute for Orthopaedic Movement Diagnostics (OrthoGO) Clinical Study ManagementNIFE - Lower Saxony Center for Biomedical Engineering, Implant Research and Development

The clinic for orthopaedic surgery, Medical School Hannover, is represented by the research unit Biohybrids, Biocompatibility, Biodegradation within NIFE (Lower Saxony Centre for Biomedical Engineering, Implant Research and Development). A new building was built at Stadtfelddamm and connects the transdisciplinary research and development of biomedical implants in Lower Saxony that is carried out at Medical School Hannover (MHH), University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Foundation (TiHo), and the Leibniz University of Hannover (LUH) in cooperation with the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH).
The research unit Biohybrids, Biocompatibility, Biodegradation is present with two working groups:
